Note THESE ARE THE COURSES FOR THE 2011 SCHOOLS

World War II - The Home Front                                John Plumb

Some of you will remember it ! some will have heard family reminiscences. Others will have thoroughly absorbed the Dad’s Army version. What was the reality of life in Britain in 1939 – 45? Bring your own memories and any unusual artefacts and photographs. But please no gas masks, ration books or ammunition!

Antiques, Collectables and Auction                     Peter Edwards

If you like the ‘Antiques Roadshow’ or ‘Flog It’, then this course is for you! During the course we will be dealing with styles, furniture, ceramics, glass and much, much more. We will also discuss the most collected of today's items. A visit to a nearby auction house will also be arranged to put your skills into practice.

Creative Writing                                                       Kate Mitchell

This course is for those who want to write but have not got around to it.  We will experiment for a range of methods and provide the opportunity for students to form and choose a genre in which they feel comfortable and wish to develop their own work.  They should gain the information they need to work towards publication.

Papercraft                                                                         Jill Dunn

Jill will be returning to show how to make gift boxes, paper embossing, folded cards, folded truffle bags and more papercraft ideas to impress family and friends. She will not be duplicating the last year's work, so even if you attended that course, there will still be lots of opportunity for you to extend your skills and knowledge.

Discovering Abbeys and Priories                              David Start

Lincolnshire was the most heavily settled county for religious communities in medieval England with around 142 abbeys, priories and hospitals. All of them were closed down by Henry VIII between 1535 and 1539 and a part of English life fell into ruin. David will be looking at the archaeological remains of these ‘bare ruined quires’ and working out what they tell us about the immense influence that the monasteries once had on our life.

Singing for Fun                                                            Paul White

This is choral singing for everyone, regardless of experience. Ability to read music is not essential. The sessions will concentrate on different styles such as music of the fifties and sixties, music from the shows, classical music, folk music, jazz etc. Join Paul and his team on the course, now in its sixth year, for a few days of music and fun!
